Is co-living only for younger people?

Myths, busted! We debunk common misperceptions about the trend that has grown into a multibillion-dollar industry.

Given the glut of information about co-living online, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction. We are here to do that for you.
Myth 1. There is bound to be friction

There are likely to be conflicts anywhere that people live in close proximity, what more a concept built around communal space and living. But some co-living companies like CP Residences cut the risk of friction by matching tenants according to their profiles. By taking into consideration factors such as occupation, age and gender, they ensure compatibility and, hence, harmony.

Myth 2. Common spaces raise a stink

Yes, university dorms can be absolutely filthy. But co-living apartments are another world altogether. Operators maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness. Teams of housekeepers ensure that common spaces are frequently cleaned and sanitised – a regimen that has been stepped up since the Covid-19 pandemic. Tenants are also encouraged to do their part in practising personal hygiene.

Myth 3. Co-living spaces are overpriced

Although you might pay a little more than for a rental, residents enjoy amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi, designated working spaces and a fully furnished apartment, along with housekeeping and repair services. What’s more, co-living offers the flexibility of short-term stays so you won’t find yourself being locked into long leases.

Myth 4. Co-living caters only for the young

Mention co-living and some immediately think of hostel living. But co-living is a housing solution for anyone, whether you are a working professional keen on expanding your network or a WFH parent with kids in tow looking for a short-term respite from home renovations. At CP Residences, the wide range of units means there is bound to be one that meets your needs.

Myth 5. Socialising is No.1 in co-living

Despite the emphasis on forging a sense of community, safety is still paramount. In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, many co-living companies have cancelled in-person networking and community events. However, CP Residences continues to foster community spirit through WhatsApp group chats and the gifting of goodies during festivals like Hari Raya and Chinese New Year. As an additional safety precaution, CP has also restructured its unit portfolio to enhance social distancing. This means, for example, renting smaller but entire units to individuals instead of having different tenants share a single unit.
