Fall in love with one of Singapore's most ideal locations to live in

Named for the nearby Singapore River which glides along the neighbourhood, River Valley has been attracting well-heeled and prominent occupants since the 1800s. One of them was Dr Thomas Oxley, the Surgeon of the Straits Settlements after whom Oxley Road was named.

Today, River Valley retains its status as an affluent neighbourhood in the prime District 9, which is just a hop and skip from the central business district (CBD). It boasts not only luxury condominiums but also unique sights, mouth-watering treats, and classy watering holes to end the day

Hong San See Temple

Built in the early 1900s by Hokkien immigrants from China’s Fujian province, Hong San See Temple is a striking symbol of Singapore’s multicultural and multireligious make-up.

Adorned with beautifully carved dragons and phoenixes, the temple, whose name means “Temple on Phoenix Hill”, adopts a traditional southern Chinese architectural style.

It was gazetted as a national monument in 1978, and underwent an extensive renovation from 2006 to 2009 under the watchful eyes of consultants and craftsmen flown in from China. The painstaking restoration won the temple the Award of Excellence in the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation – a first for a Singapore building.

Fort Canning Park

One of Singapore’s most iconic parks, Fort Canning Park is rich with history as well as flora and fauna. The 18-hectare park features nine unique gardens and multiple historical sites, including the famous Battlebox, a bunker that served as a command centre for the pro-British Malaya Command during World War II.

History buffs will also love visiting the Fort Canning Heritage Gallery, which showcases the hill’s rich history. For example, it features archaeological artefacts excavated from sites within Fort Canning Park and multiple digital interactive stations. It also hosts periodic exhibitions, festivals and concerts, such as film screenings and performances.
